DO YOU KNOW VICTOR JARA? Victor Jara was an international reference in the world of protest and singer-songwriter songs and a leading exponent of the Nueva Canción Chilena (Chilean movement of the 1960s, based on the recovery and re-elaboration of Latin American folklore and characterized by the use of music as a weapon of struggle and social and political commitment: in addition to Jara, we also remember the Inti-Illimani). But he was also a great supporter of President Salvador Allende and paid the consequences.

Daniele Sepe will remember the South American artist on the Nocera stage with the show “Conosci Victor Jara?”, a title that refers to the album released in 2000 by the Neapolitan saxophonist and composer. The concert will transform the stage of the Diana Theater into a space shared with the public, where music will be a means to talk about the legendary Chilean artist, not only through his songs that have become cult, but also through his other contemporaries, contextualizing his poetics and extending the performance to all of Latin America with its atmosphere and culture.

The album that Sepe published at the beginning of the millennium also featured Auli Kokko and José Seves (a historic member of Inti-Illimani). Now, fifty years after the tragic coup of September 11, 1973 (with which the dictator Pinochet violently deposed the democratically elected government of Allende), Daniele Sepe has released “poema 15”, an album that resumes the path undertaken in 2000 with “Conosci Victor Jara?”, giving life to an extraordinary tribute to the Chilean singer-songwriter, a history lesson in music of political song and militant poetry from South America that becomes a theatrical performance.

"It will be a tribute to the Latin American music that has so influenced Italian songwriting – explains Daniele Sepe – We all drank from those stories, those books, and we ended up knowing places like Brazil and Argentina well. Ours will be a celebration of that world and its magic. Latin American music in general is much more upbeat than what we tend to absorb back home; everyone here dances to those tunes, we owe them a lot of good humor. There's a different color. Jara is fundamental in this, and his music is an additional tool for interpreting the present and building the future.
