On Sunday, January 14, 2024, at 11 a.m., the Provincial Archaeological Museum of Salerno hosts the first event of the new year in the "Domeniche ad Arte" series, organized by the Province of Salerno with the CTA Salerno aps and the Provincial ACLI of Salerno, following the "Villa Guariglia Summer Concerts on Tour" and in partnership with Coldiretti Salerno-Campagna Amica and CLAAI.
"Cole Porter, Night and Days - Standards and Stories" is the title. Music and lyrics tell the story of one of the most important composers of the twentieth century. A life of excess and extravagance, lived adventurously: from war, fought on the front lines of the French Foreign Legion, to memorable parties with writers, artists, and intellectuals, to his marriage to Linda Lee Thomas. Cole Porter had a unique personality, modern, indeed very modern, a man who even in the 1400s made no secret of his homosexuality—quite the opposite. And of XNUMX songs he wrote, at least thirty are destined for immortality. Porter will be narrated by journalist and music critic Carlo Pecoraro, along with maestro Pasquale Auricchio, who will perform some of the American composer's most famous pieces, accompanied on piano by Alfonso Marra.
"What we will do is offer suggestions to the public, try to take a leap into the past, into the Paris of the 1920s. - anticipated Carlo Pecoraro, journalist -. To do so with the same grace that Woody Allen used in his film Midnight in Paris, in which, aboard an antique Peugeot, he transports the film's protagonist back in time. We will try to do so with words and notes, highlighting the modernity of this musician, not only musically but also socially. Cole Porter's compositions still ring true sixty years after his death. These songs have become among the most famous jazz standards. And not only that, the reinterpretations by people like Bono Vox, Iggy Pop, Annie Lennox, Tom Waits, Lisa Stanfield, and David Byrn are unforgettable.
