“There is still a lot to do on gender inequality in the world of work. The latest available data, from the Chamber of Deputies' Research Centre to those released by Eurostat, outline a panorama for Italy in which the gender gap is still very strong: one woman in five leaves the labour market after maternity, and the female unemployment rate in Italy is still worrying, at 51,1%, below the EU average of almost 65%.
While overall the presence on the boards of directors is growing, there are still very few women who hold executive roles”. This is what Floriana Tomassetti, sole director of ESCo Ecosfera Servizi spa, reminds us.
“Faced with this situation, we need to relaunch the culture of inclusion and the tools available to companies as much as possible. Above all, equality certification, which includes numerous benefits and competitive advantages for companies. Furthermore, thanks to the investments of the PNRR, we aim to certify 1000 Italian companies by 2026.
In our country, there are over 700 SMEs alone, and this should make us reflect on the need for greater commitment from economic and institutional actors if Italy really wants to break down gender barriers.
Our company immediately joined the equality certification, and considers it essential to continue on this path: we are convinced that the example and greater information on the topic can create a virtuous circle and make Italy, over time, a country truly close to women.
The opportunity for a female leadership in government, together with the European women leaders, is an extraordinary fact in history, but we must project ourselves into a future in which all this will have to be considered normal”, concludes Tomassetti.
