Ferrara celebrates Arnoldo Foà 10 years after his death

On January 11, 2014, Arnoldo Foà, actor, theater director, voice actor, singer and writer, passed away in Rome.

He was born in Ferrara on January 24, 1916. His hometown is paying homage to him on the tenth anniversary of his death by naming the large hall of the Ridotto of the Teatro Comunale di Ferrara after him on February 15. Arnoldo Foà's wife and daughters will be present.

This will be followed by a free screening of the documentary film 'I Am the Theatre', a journey into the artistic and human experiences of the actor, author, director, playwright, sculptor, painter, and poet.

With this initiative, ten years after his death, the city of Ferrara intends to highlight and commemorate a great twentieth-century figure who, through his work and his legacy, made a significant contribution to the world of culture and entertainment in a wide variety of fields., says Mayor Alan Fabbri.

Arnoldo Foà was a renowned Italian actor with an exceptional career in theater, cinema and television. Of Jewish origins from Ferrara, he was forced to interrupt his film studies in Rome in 1938 due to the fascist racial laws. During the Second World War, he took refuge in Naples, becoming chief announcer for Radio PWB, the Allied radio station.

He was responsible for reading the announcement of the armistice on September 8, 1943. After the war, he returned to the theater, working with directors such as Luchino Visconti, Luca Visconti, Luigi Squarzina, and Giorgio Strehler. As a director, he staged plays and operas. He made his debut as a playwright in 1957 with "Signori buonasera" and continued to write successful works.
