"Attacking healthcare workers means attacking yourself." This was stated by the general secretary of Uil Campania and NapoliGiovanni Sgambati, during the flash mob of doctors and nurses at the Cardarelli hospital promoted by the Uil and the Uil Fpl category following the episodes of violence that have occurred in the emergency rooms in recent weeks.

"It is certainly," according to Sgambati, "unacceptable, which is why we are trying to rebuild a platform for initiative throughout the region that serves not only to protect workers but also citizens. We need to toughen penalties and increase staff numbers."

"Police squads are a good first response," Sgambati clarified, "but they need to be expanded because we need a strong capacity to prevent violence. The Prefecture has made decisions that we absolutely agree with, but they're not enough.

We need adequate staffing because it's their shortage that's creating major disruptions. After two years of the Covid emergency, healthcare workers cannot afford an attack like this, which, unfortunately, at the beginning of the year, was harmful and unacceptable."

"Covid," said Nicola Di Donna, general secretary of Uil Fpl Naples and Campania, "should have taught us that we needed to invest in healthcare. We need to reopen emergency rooms closed due to Covid, punish those responsible for violence, and address the issue of how to protect those people who are waiting hours for news of their relatives.

Filters must be created within emergency rooms and staff must be increased to combat incidents of violence and provide citizens with a service worthy of a civilized country."

Also present was Avs MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli. "This situation has long since gone far beyond what is tolerable. Enough! These troglodytes, in addition to harming medical staff, also cause inconvenience to patients, given that healthcare workers are essential figures who are already often understaffed," Borrelli said.

"Very often, those who attack staff are the same ones who devastate hospitals. They cause damage after damage, but they aren't stopped, not peremptorily. Minister Piantedosi had promised police presence in all emergency rooms. It's true that I'm short-sighted, but I can see perfectly well with glasses, and in many facilities, criminals are given free rein, and there's not even a shadow of law enforcement," he concluded.
