The investigating judge of Benevento The Italian prosecutor has issued a precautionary prison order with the benefit of house arrest for a 24-year-old man charged with personal injury, aggravated by the offense being committed for the purpose of discrimination and racial hatred. The investigation stems from an incident that occurred in the historic center of Benevento, outside a public venue, on the night of May 13th.
Four Chinese nationals were verbally and physically attacked by a person who made racist remarks about them. They were subsequently treated at Fatebenefratelli Hospital for bruises on various parts of their bodies, with a recovery prognosis of two to three days.
Analysis of local security cameras and videos recorded by the victims, and interviews with witnesses, including local residents, led to the identification of the 24-year-old, who attacked the victims while in a group and then drove away in a car moments before law enforcement arrived.
