Tomorrow at 11am the hearing will be held in the Poggioreale prison Napoli The hearing to validate the arrest warrant issued against Gaetano Santaniello, the 45-year-old accused of the accidental murder of his aunt Concetta Russo, 55, which occurred on New Year's Eve in Afragola.

Santaniello, assisted by lawyer Francesca Salvatici, was questioned again today by the prosecutor of the Naples North Prosecutor's Office, based in Aversa and with jurisdiction over Afragola.

The 45-year-old, originally from Afragola but resident in Lombardy, substantially confirmed what he had already told investigators. He explained that he showed his relatives the Beretta model 85F pistol, purchased for the New Year's Eve celebrations, mistakenly thinking that it was completely unloaded.

An inadvertent shot fired from the gun, fatally wounding his aunt in the head. Santaniello is charged with manslaughter, illegal possession of a weapon in a public place, and receiving stolen goods.

The bag containing the gun, some bullets, and narcotics was recovered thanks to information provided by Santaniello during questioning at the police station. Initially, the family was reticent, but a cousin later told the Carabinieri the truth, followed by his wife, and finally by Santaniello himself.

Gaetano Santaniello didn't want to take the gun

The incident occurred shortly after midnight: Santaniello initially refused to take the gun, which he had bought to celebrate 2024, but he gave in to a family member's insistence. After extracting the magazine and showing the bullets to his worried aunt, the gun accidentally fired, fatally wounding her in the head.
