Soccer World Cup, Mexico 1986 quarterfinals, England-Argentina, it was the 22nd outing. Maradona jumps, he is twenty centimeters shorter than the goalkeeper, but he touches the ball first, and scores. With his hand. The referee doesn't notice. Maradona convinces his teammates to celebrate with him "otherwise the referee won't validate it", he told them.
At the end of the match (it was a historic 2-1 victory, in the end Argentina won the World Cup), in a press conference, el Pibe de Oro, in response to those who asked him how he had managed to score, uttered a phrase that became
The “Mano de Dios”, precisely: people talked about it for decades, films were made. Well, to the popular cult for the “Mano de Dios” now a novelty is added. It is proposed by Ciro di Maio, a pizza chef originally from Frattamaggiore, in the Naples area, who today opened his “San Ciro” in Brescia, a pizzeria that is a hotbed of social projects.
Ciro idolizes Maradona and listening to his songs he decided to create an innovative pizza, the “Mano de Dios”, a pizza made in the shape of a hand holding in the palm a huge and juicy mozzarella di Bufala Campana dop di Mondragone, which is decorated with a mop of datterini tomatoes made directly at San Ciro, fresh basil on the way out and dop Terra di Bari oil to seal a unique, simple and exciting pizza.

"I love Naples and I love Maradona"
“I love Naples, I love Frattamaggiore, I love my land, I love Maradona and that's why I decided to create this pizza, to dedicate it to my people and to those who love pizza”, says Ciro di Maio, proud of his creation.
It must be said that the idea also appeals to those who proposed it on the menu, many are traveling miles to try and taste Ciro's nice culinary initiative. He explains his reasons to all his customers. “The mozzarella in the palm of your hand is like the world, as if the world itself were capable of being stopped by the Mano de Dios, by the hand of Maradona that we all loved.”
This is the latest venture from Ciro Di Maio, a pizza chef born in 1990. In 2015, he decided to seek new opportunities by moving to Lombardy. Thus began the "San Ciro" adventure. The restaurant's name is a tribute to Ciro's grandparents, both on his maternal and paternal sides, who were key figures in his life. His father, in particular, dedicated his time to volunteering and helping young drug addicts, working with a community to offer them a chance to quit drugs and rebuild a better life.
Ciro now considers himself privileged and has decided to offer the less fortunate the opportunity to find work. In the early months of 2023, in fact, he taught the art of pizza making to inmates of the Canton Mombello prison of Brescia, thanks to a project developed in collaboration with Luisa Ravagnani, guarantor of the rights of persons deprived of personal liberty of the Municipality of Brescia, and supported by the director of the prison, Francesca Paola Lucrezi.
