Due to a translation error, the defendant expected in Naples was instead taken to Aversa, in the province of Caserta, where the Naples North court is located.
The first hearing of the trial for the double murder of the brothers-in-law ended with the swearing-in of the popular jury Luigi Cammisa e Maria Brigida Pesacane, murdered by their father-in-law Raffaele Caiazzo June 8, 2023 at Saint Antimo, in the province of Naples.
The trial has been adjourned until February 14th, when the civil parties (about ten have been announced) are expected to appear and the preliminary issues will be discussed. A hearing schedule will also be set at that time.
After his arrest, 44-year-old Caiazzo admitted to killing Cammisa in Piazzetta Sant'Antonio, but declared that he did not remember anything about the second murder, that of Maria Brigida, which took place in the victim's house while she was in the bathroom and her young children, Caiazzo's grandchildren, were sleeping.

The murderer had fallen in love with his son's wife
Initially it was assumed that the motive for the double homicide was attributable to Caiazzo's obsession with an alleged extramarital affair between the two married brothers-in-law with his two children Anna and Alfonso. However, from the statements of Caiazzo's children and his wife, it emerged that Caiazzo had fallen in love with Maria Brigida, so much so that he often went to her house.
A similar episode occurred last October during another trial underway before the same judge.
