The number of cases of flu-like syndromes remains high and substantially stable compared to last week ItalyBetween December 25 and 31, according to the RespiVirNet surveillance bulletin from the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, just over 1 million Italians were hospitalized due to respiratory viruses, more than a third due to influenza viruses.
According to the bulletin, the incidence of flu-like illnesses was 17,5 cases per thousand inhabitants (17,7 the previous week). Young children are still the most affected: among those under five, the rate is 48,7 cases per thousand; 19,21 among those aged 5-14; 17,15 among those aged 15-64; and 10,28 among those over 65.
Among the Regions, the highest incidence was recorded in Campania, with 24,51 cases per thousand inhabitants; Friuli-Venezia Giulia follows with 23,69 and Umbria with 22,93. The increase in influenza virus circulation continues. Of the samples analyzed by laboratories belonging to the RespiVirNet network, 37,5% tested positive for influenza (up from 33,5% last week); 22% tested positive for SarsCoV2, 11% for respiratory syncytial virus, while the remainder tested positive for other respiratory viruses.
