Last night, an off-duty carabiniere spotted a thief on board a Lancia Ypsilon with a person on board who was pushing a Fiat Panda with the engine off and two people inside, along the SP 335, in the municipality of Marcianise.
The alarm was raised by a Carabinieri officer from the Marcianise Company who was returning to the barracks. The Operations and Radiomobile Unit responded immediately, but the occupants of the Fiat Panda managed to escape on foot into the surrounding countryside.
The driver of the Lancia Ypsilon attempted to escape in the direction of Naples, starting a chase that ended in Corso Vittorio Emanuele III, on the steps of San Pasquale, where he was stopped.
Subsequent investigations revealed that both cars were stolen. The arrested man, a 45-year-old from Castel Volturno, was reported at large and will have to answer for theft with violence on property and resisting a public official. Further investigations are underway by the Carabinieri of the Marcianise Company.
