The home of digital art at the service of archaeology to better understand the splendor of the Vesuvian territory.

Also in 2023, the MAV/ Virtual Archaeological Museum of Herculaneum records a trend of clearly growing attendance and, with its approximately 77 thousand visitors, doubles the admissions compared to 2022, the post-Covid year, promoting with the technological magic of virtual travel the great beauty of the Roman cities and homes on the slopes of Vesuvius and beyond, before the devastating and tragic eruption of 79 AD, in a digital archaeological walk preparatory to the visit of the extraordinary Vesuvian archaeological sites.

Finally, the MAV returns to normality, to those attendance numbers that had decreed its success before the revolution of October 2019, when the latest technological update of the Museum, the MAV 5.0 - Virtual multiReality, was presented and little enjoyed, due to the pandemic, which radically changed the way of living the cognitive experience of the virtual journey into the life and splendor of the main archaeological areas of Pompeii, Herculaneum, Baia, Stabiae and Capri.

Then, since June 2021, a new creature, the Museum of the Vesuvius National Park Authority in Boscoreale, has become part of the management of the CIVES/MAV Foundation of Ercolano, and together the two cultural institutions have outdone themselves in promoting the Vesuvian territory, welcoming a total of approximately 2023 thousand visitors in 85, thanks to the many events organized, including for schools. A comforting result that, thanks to the synergies implemented by the Region and local institutions, far exceeds, by doubling, the number of tickets sold last year, thus identifying the two Museums as places for experimentation and dissemination of new digital languages. A goal to improve in the future, while waiting for the new integrated hub of Boscoreale to be born, thanks to the happy intuition of Gabriel Zuchtriegel, Director of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, shared by the relevant bodies and local institutions, which will lead to the demolition of a diaphragm wall, which today separates the Museum of the Vesuvius National Park from the archaeological site of Villa Regina and the Antiquarium of Boscoreale, thus promoting that physical and immaterial integration of the respective structures, necessary for the implementation and improvement of the tourist services offered by the territory.

The cultural narration of the MAV/Virtual Archaeological Museum of Herculaneum continues in beauty and inclusion, which, a few hundred meters from the archaeological excavations of ancient Herculaneum, represents a center of culture and technology applied to Cultural Heritage and communication among the most cutting-edge in Italy, thanks to the technological magic of the latest version MAV 5.0 – Virtual multiReality, the most advanced ever which, since October 2019, has radically revolutionized the way of living the cognitive experience of the virtual journey into the life and splendor of the main archaeological areas of Pompeii, Herculaneum, Baia, Stabia and Capri, to better understand their past and beauty, in a journey preparatory to visiting the open-air archaeological sites of the Campania region.

The use of the MAV museum, thanks always to the initiative “The MAV exclusively for you”, through a dedicated reservation, can always take place exclusively for organized groups of up to 20 people, at a special entrance fee, from Tuesday to Sunday, with the only recommendation to stagger visits every hour.

The area open to the public will be the museum route, the room for viewing the 3D film on the eruption of Vesuvius and the holographic installation of the digital Siren
