NIn recent days, Italy has been assaulted by the powerful African anticyclone. Even the so-called 'blackbird days', traditionally the coldest of the year, could turn out to be the mildest of the winter.
Maximum temperatures, constantly above the seasonal average, will fluctuate between 14 and 21 degrees in the regions of Central-Southern Italy, in Liguria and in the Alpine areas. However, in the areas of the Po Valley temperatures will remain rather cool, around 4-6°C, but only in the presence of fog or low clouds.
The Zeus anticyclone could cause persistent atmospheric stasis even beyond February 2, Candlemas Day.
Meteorologists warn that winter subtropical anticyclones bring not only pleasant weather and prevailing sunshine, but also a negative and potentially dangerous side. Atmospheric stasis and poor ventilation will favor the formation of fogs in the flat areas of the North. If these fogs were to lift, the sky would appear overcast and gray.
This situation, starting from the weekend, will cause a significant deterioration in air quality, with possible repercussions on the health of the population, especially the elderly and children. The weather forecast for the next few days will be almost monotonous, similar to a copy of the previous day.
The sun will be prevalent in the Center-South, in Liguria, on the major islands and in all the Alpine and pre-Alpine areas, creating an almost spring-like sensation. Low clouds or fog, however, will affect the Po Valley.
