Giancarlo Posteraro, President of the Juvenile Court of Napoli, expressed concern about the increase in crimes committed by minors in the area of the Court of Appeal of Naples. He stressed the importance of developing strategies to combat and prevent these crimes, in parallel with the necessary repression.
Posteraro made these remarks during the inauguration of the 2024 judicial year. He stressed the need to distinguish between juvenile deviance linked to Camorra organized crime and that resulting from family educational deficiencies. He warned of the risk that these two forms of juvenile deviance could intertwine if they are not identified promptly.
He described scenes of chaotic violence by groups of boys and young criminals, shooting wildly, forcing people to seek cover to avoid being shot. He highlighted that these minors are often linked to organized crime through their family, but there are also cases of boys with criminal aspirations who have no family ties to organized crime.
Posteraro then spoke about the so-called “baby gangs”, groups of minors who commit crimes with gratuitous violence, often against their peers, in a climate of impunity and omnipotence. He concluded by underlining that the overall situation confirms the trend of the previous year, namely an increase in serious crimes committed by minors.
