A bust of Benito Mussolini displayed in a hospital room CardarelliFollowing the news item and photo published on the Internapoli website, the hospital's general management has launched an internal investigation.
According to a statement, "an internal inspection service has been activated to verify the reports and identify those responsible." The photo on the website shows the bust of the Duce displayed next to a 2021 calendar with a photo of Mussolini and the motto "Memento audere semper."
"The rules and code of conduct for public employees," the Cardarelli management reminds us, "require maximum neutrality on the part of those who work for the public administration and therefore limit statements regarding political opinions, sexual preferences, and religious beliefs."
Following the investigations, "anyone responsible for inappropriate behavior will be reported to the Disciplinary Proceedings Office."

"It is extremely serious that a bust of Mussolini is kept in a public hospital, especially if that hospital is the Cardarelli in Naples, which has a history and an image to preserve.", says Barbara Preziosi, member of the Committee for the Promotion of Popular European Reformists (PER).
"This is just the latest of the episodes that should make us question what is happening in our country and the climate we breathe – Precious continues -. It's good that the hospital management has launched an internal investigation to understand who put that bust in place, so that appropriate sanctions can be taken."
Preziosi also highlights the risks of a rebirth of fascist ideology, a "This is an attack on the democratic values we have painstakingly built over the years. Embracing authoritarian ideologies undermines trust in representative democracy and fosters a climate of suspicion and division. We expect the majority to distance themselves clearly and unequivocally."
