Naples. The Camorra invested in famous clothing brands, the sale of counterfeit watches, the food and IT trade, the restaurant and freight transport sectors, and even a private clinic for the treatment of autism.
This morning, in a joint raid by the Guardia di Finanza and the Carabinieri, 25 people were arrested and assets worth over 8 million euros were seized.
The blitz carried out by the military of the Economic-Financial Police Unit of the Guardia di Finanza, in collaboration with the Central Service for the Investigation of Organised Crime and with the Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of the Provincial Command, who executed an application order of personal and real precautionary measures issued by the GIP of the Court of Napoli, at the request of the local District Anti-Mafia Directorate, against 25 people.
All seriously accused, to varying degrees, of criminal association, receiving stolen goods, illegal possession and carrying of a firearm in a public place, as well as attempted extortion and attempted murder aggravated by mafia methods.
The measure originates from the investigations carried out against a business group based in the Neapolitan capital which allegedly laundered large sums of money from tax fraud through undue compensation or from counterfeiting crimes in numerous companies, acquired or established in Italy and abroad.
The suspects would have fictitiously registered said companies in the name of nominees, recruited and paid for this purpose, in order to avoid possible seizure orders.
They would also have made use of pcomplacent professionals to carry out recycling operations in the most varied economic sectors, such as“trendy” clothing, the sale of counterfeit branded watches, the trade of food and computer products, the Catering and freight transport.
They would have even acquired 50% of the share capital of a Autism Clinic located in the province of Campobasso reinvesting almost 3 million euros of illicit origin.
These investments were accompanied by images and comments published, almost daily, on the main social networks, aimed mainly at a young audience, to advertise the opening of new commercial lines and emphasize a standard of living that is completely incompatible with the small incomes declared to the tax authorities.
Some of the individuals involved in the measure are said to have also taken part in further criminal cases, such as the illegal possession and carrying of weapons, attempted extortion and attempted murder, aggravated by the mafia method, to the detriment of a person towards whom they had a credit for a business deal that did not go well.
Assets worth 8,4 million euros seized
On this basis, three suspects were placed in pre-trial detention in prison, nine under house arrest and thirteen under the obligation to report to the judicial police, and a preventive seizure of financial assets and movable and immovable property for approximately 8,4 million euros was also carried out.
