Two publications and a concert to celebrate the musical genius: on Tuesday, January 9, the Naples Conservatory will remember the Apulian composer during a meeting that will include the presentation of the volume "Mercadante 150," the presentation of the CD "La sposa del demonio," and a performance by mezzo-soprano Teresa Iervolino and pianist Francesco Pareti.
Edited by Antonio Caroccia and Paologiovanni Maione, the volume "Mercadante 150" is the result of the study days that in the autumn of 2020 marked the international conference of the same name promoted by San Pietro a Majella on the occasion of the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of his death.
The book's formative years, its European career, the unique characteristics of its artistic profile, and an analysis of the manuscripts held in the Conservatory's library are some of the themes explored in depth in the book, topics that Caroccia and Maione will explore during the meeting.
At the request of Stefano Valanzuolo, the two curators will also focus on Mercadante's years at San Pietro a Majella, first as a student and then as director from 1840 to 1870. His contribution to the chamber music repertoire for voice will be commemorated with the presentation of the CD "La sposa del demonio. Romanze da camera di Saverio Mercadante."
