Sthey gathered in the square in front of the offices of the Civil Motorization of Napoli the victims of the mega-scam involving counterfeit license plates who saw their cars seized even though they had purchased and paid for them regularly.
The demonstration was also attended by the deputy of Alleanza Verdi Sinistra Francesco Emilio Borrelli, who presented a parliamentary question on the case. In 2022, approximately 1500 license plates were registered, with the same number of cars, by the Civil Motorization of Naples but after a year they were withdrawn due to the irregularity of the documentation with which they were put into circulation.
The cars (especially the license plates) were placed under this because they were “ghost vehicles” with license plates that actually did not exist. For this reason, the Naples Motorization Office declared them “scam vehicles to be stopped and seized”.
Strong suspicions have fallen on a car registration agency in Volla, which on paper appears to have been closed for some time but which in fact has withdrawn many of the plates now incriminated. These are mostly cars imported into Italy from San Marino where the reduced VAT of 7% is applied instead of 22%.
"We have these cars paid for regularly at a non-subsidized price, so we are not complicit in this scam, without being able to use them parked on the streets or in garages. The worst thing is that we are not allowed to regularize our position by re-registering the license plates and paying the difference in VAT. Even the appeal to the TAR was rejected. Nobody gives us an answer" - explained one of the defrauded protesters.
"Whoever is directly responsible, that is, the Civil Motorization, remains silent and does not listen to the defrauded citizens. Even in Parliament, where I brought the story, the news did not make any noise and the competent Ministry remained silent. However, we do not give up, we return to the charge. The judiciary - Borrelli hopes - unravel this mess quickly".
