In Naples, from today the former Eca in via Amato da Montecassino, in Materdei, hosts the children of the nursery school Rocco Jemma. The building was inaugurated this morning by Mayor Gaetano Manfredi and Councilor for Education and Families Maura Striano, along with City Councilor Rosario Palumbo and the President of the Second Municipality, Roberto Marino. "The project," a statement from the Municipality reads, "is part of a broader project aimed at transforming the facility into a center for early childhood."
The relocation of the children attending the Rocco Jemma nursery school was necessary to complete seismic, functional, and energy upgrades to the building on Via Guglielmo Appulo, for which €4.763.432,14 has been allocated. The Rocco Jemma nursery school is one of 28 projects approved for funding by the Ministry of Education under the PNRR measures, for a total of approximately €83 million, in addition to approximately €11 million from the Non-Deferrable Works fund allocated by the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
"Thanks to the PNRR funds," said Manfredi, "we have begun major redevelopment projects for nursery schools and preschools throughout the municipality, both structurally and functionally.

"€18 was invested in the remediation of the municipal welfare agency building alone," Striano explained, "while we've allocated a full €600 to major restoration, safety, and renovation work on the facility. We've also cleared out the former caretaker's quarters, located behind the building, restoring the garden. We'll continue working on this because we want to give the area a space for children and families, reviving the former ECA's purpose. Our plans include the construction of a childcare center, which will include the current nursery, a preschool, and a playroom, using the former school building. Furthermore, we're already in contact with several parties interested in restoring the church within the structure, which has been the target of vandalism."
"I thank the mayor and the councilor," Palumbo emphasized, "because, while the government is busy merging schools, creating disparities across the regions, we are opening new facilities, demonstrating the clear vision that the Manfredi administration has always had on the issue. I especially thank our technicians who have worked diligently, and the parents and teachers of the school who have accompanied us on this journey. When, almost two years ago, I proposed redeveloping this facility, we made a significant commitment to the community. Today, that commitment is being kept with a further promise: to further enhance the Materdei neighborhood and its cultural, social, and historical vocations."
