A new episode of suicide has occurred in the Poggioreale prison in Napoli, representing the third case since the beginning of 2024.

The victim is a prisoner who would soon have finished serving his sentence. The news of his death was confirmed by the Campania prison superintendent, Lucia Castellano, who stated: “The prisoner was in a particularly difficult personal situation.

I have already taken action, but the situation in the Poggioreale prison, notoriously the most crowded in Europe, is extremely complex”.

Currently, an investigation is underway by the management of the Neapolitan prison to shed light on what happened. The autopsy will then establish the causes of death.
