Operation “Insider”: Criminal organization dismantled that fraudulently collected one and a half million euros in Poste Italiane insurance policies
The Postal and Communications Police dismantled a criminal organization that operated between Lazio and Campania and was responsible for insurance fraud against Poste Italiane.
The investigation, called “Insider”, started from some complaints filed by unsuspecting holders of Poste Italiane life insurance policies, who saw their savings defrauded.
The investigations, conducted by the Operations Centre for Cyber Security of the Lazio Postal Police and coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office Napoli, allowed them to identify the leader of the organization, a Neapolitan criminal who supervised all the criminal activity.
The organization, composed of at least 40 people, including four dishonest employees of Poste Italiane, had developed a fraudulent system to illegally collect insurance policies.
The unfaithful employees, by illegally accessing the company archives, provided information on the customers who were the policy holders, on the sums held on the same and on the most suitable methods to collect them to the detriment of the unaware account holders.
This information was then used by other members of the organization, who showed up in person at the counters of post offices in Campania and Lazio to collect the policies.
In this way, the organization managed to steal one and a half million euros from its victims.
Thanks to the collaboration with the Fraud Management office of Poste Italiane, the Postal Police was able to thwart numerous other fraud attempts for a total amount of 3,5 million euros.
At the end of the investigations, the Postal Police executed six arrest and house arrest orders against the main people responsible for the organization.
In addition, 15 searches were carried out and 39 other people were reported at liberty.
Operation “Insider” allowed the dismantling of a criminal organisation that operated in a widespread manner in Lazio and in Campania and which caused significant damage to the victims.
