In recent weeks, there have been more reports of violence against health workers in the emergency rooms of our region. Requests to the Prefect are intensifying Napoli of a strong intervention by public safety forces for greater control and protection of public order.
Naturally, the protest and the threat of strike by the nurses' union to protect the operators begins. The picture described outlines the serious situation of the National Health System that is getting worse and worse.
Economic hardship restricts the possibility of adequate care, as if one were constantly living in an emergency/urgency situation. The significant shortage of doctors and nurses subjects emergency room staff to stressful work shifts, which must deal with a flood of symptomatic and urgent patients.
Faced with a highly critical situation, the silence of politics is deafening.
The Prime Minister also states that autonomy could be a positive driving force for the South, forgetting that there is already a significant migration of patients towards the North.
The serious handicap existing both in the structures and in the personnel has shifted enormous financial disbursements from the southern regions to the north, increasing the already existing gap.
In healthcare, we have already experienced with the Covid 19 pandemic that the various regional programs have produced contrasting results, mainly to the advantage of the North. At present, the budget does not foresee any increase in government funding for the NHS
In Campania, on the other hand, there are no attempts to organize territorial medicine to deal with seasonal emergencies without crowding hospitals. Currently, faced with the increase in hospitalizations for pneumonia and Covid, a plan has not been prepared to deal with the increased demand for care by the community.
Local medicine is lacking, it does not yet have a dimension of organicity to be able to face and manage the emergency; at the same time, hospitals are becoming overcrowded again, causing chaos and favoring gestures and acts of violence against the staff.
What can we deduce from this? That the government financial resources allocated to public health are insufficient and that the same must be said for the number of employees. In some regions, it has been possible to organize services with an acceptable standard. In Campania, however, the very lack of service organization processes, the inefficiency of the system becomes increasingly worrying and inevitably favors unjustified acts of violence.
