The artist brings to the stage the two one-act plays “'O cafè 'e notte e ghiuorno” (Night and day café) and “'Nterr' 'a 'Mmaculatella” (Maritime dock), the third chapter of his project produced by the public theatre of Forcella.

On Friday 5 January, at 21 pm, the Trianon opens the January review dedicated to Raffaele Viviani with the diptych of one-act plays “'O cafè 'e notte e ghiuorno” (Night and Day Café) and “'Nterr' 'a 'Mmaculatella” (Maritime Dock).

Previewed last year as a season premiere, the third chapter of the Viviani per strada project, conceived and directed by Nello Mascia and produced by Trianon, returns to the stage.

'O cafè 'e notte e ghiuorno, written in 1919, is set on a cold winter night in Don Alfonso's "third-rate café". For Mascia "the atmosphere you breathe is a freezing nocturne, which belies the rhetoric of a city drunk on sun, with the characters living their existential tragedy with all the skepticism, fantasy and self-irony that the Neapolitan people are capable of: we laugh at the mad writer who recites out loud the improbable script he is composing; we laugh at the unlucky gambler, the lazy and vulgar waiter and even the family of the unemployed worker who has decided to spend the night in the café because they no longer have a house that can accommodate them".

In the other one-act play, 'Nterr' 'a 'Mmaculatella, written in 1918, we find ourselves at the Immacolatella pier, with the Washington «transitrancheto» which is about to set sail for Argentina with its load of emigrants. In this one-act play Viviani addresses the drama of emigration, made more dramatic by the economic and social crisis caused by the war, focusing on four groups of characters: the emigrants, poor peasants who have paid dearly for their ticket, overwhelmed by speculators of every kind, beautiful energies forced to disperse around the world; the first-class passengers, against whom the Author's mockery rages; then there are «those who remain», because they are forced; and, finally, the sub-proletariat of the people of the port.

With Nello Mascia himself and the participation of Giovanni Mauriello, the two shows will feature Federica Aiello, Francesco Bellopede, Salvatore Caruso, Peppe Celentano, Francesco Del Gaudio, Angela De Matteo, Bianca De Matteo, Massimo De Matteo, Antonio Fiorillo, Antonio Maria Iorio, Pierluigi Iorio, Luca Lubrano, Roberto Mascia, Matteo Mauriello, Maurizio Murano, Serena Pisa, Ivano Schiavi and Federica Totaro.

The music is performed live by Mariano Bellopede, who also signs the arrangements and takes care of the musical direction, Francesco Del Gaudio (trumpet), Paolo Forlini (drums) and Davide Afzal (bass). The scenes are by Raffaele Di Florio, the costumes by Annalisa Ciaramella, the choreography by Ettore Squillace, the lights by Gianluca Sacco and the sound by Daniele Chessa. The assistant director is Roberto Giordano.

Repeats Saturday 6, Sunday 7, Friday 12, Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 January, at 21 pm, except for the Sunday performances scheduled at 18 pm.

The Viviani review will continue with “Io, Raffaele Viviani”, a show directed by Antonio Ferrante (from Thursday 18 to Sunday 21 January) and “Sottovoce”, directed by Ernesto Lama (Thursday 25 January). This Viviani cycle will close with “La musica dei ciechi”, a project and direction by Gigi Di Luca (from Friday 26 to Sunday 28 January).

The Trianon Viviani benefits from the support of the Ministry of Culture, the Campania Region (ordinary funds and POC 2014-2020) and the Metropolitan City of Naples, with the patronage of Rai Campania.
