The judicial investigation will shed light on a death shrouded in mystery and suspicion that marked the beginning of the new year in the prison emergency in Naples, with the death of a young inmate in Poggioreale.

In the Naples Pavilion, the lifeless body of Alexandro Esposito, 33 years old, originally from Miano and resident in San Giorgio a Cremano and awaiting trial with preventive detention, was discovered in his cell on the eve ofEpiphany.

The alarm for the young man was raised too late, and despite attempts to resuscitate him, the local health authority doctor who arrived at 9:45 a.m. on Friday had to pronounce him dead, sending the documents to the prosecutor's office. Now, questions and doubts arise about Alexandro's death.

A relevant detail emerges from the report of the doctor who intervened on site: "When I arrived," it reads, "I found the patient lying on a stretcher outside the ground-floor infirmary, about to be transported. The patient was in rigor mortis." The body was already rigid, suggesting that death had occurred several hours earlier, perhaps even the previous evening.

Esposito's cell, with at least two other people, raises questions about whether any of his cellmates noticed any signs of discomfort or complaints. A second detail noted by the doctor was "dark liquid material leaking from his mouth." Further scientific investigations also reveal signs of a strong hematoma on the body.

According to the prison doctor, death occurred 12 hours before the alarm was raised.

The investigations coordinated by the Prosecutor's Office Napoli They aim to clarify the circumstances of his death. The autopsy, scheduled for Monday, could confirm suspicions of possible homicide, as the possibility of Alexandro Esposito's death being caused by natural causes or suicide appears to be ruled out.

Mystery thickens around that cell, with investigations attempting to uncover the truth guarded by the walls and its occupants.

Alexandro Esposito's family demands to know the truth about his death

The family of Alexandro Esposito has turned to the lawyer Onofrio Annunziata for clarifications on the death of their relative and are ready to appoint their own medical consultant who will have to attend the autopsy.

"Yesterday morning I was in Poggioreale prison, on the ground floor of the Naples section. I stopped to reflect and pray in front of the cell where Alessandro, who turned 33 last August, was found dead yesterday."

To say it is Samuele Ciambriello, Guarantor of persons subjected to restrictive measures of personal freedom of the Campania Region, who reached the Neapolitan prison, where yesterday an inmate was found dead. The Naples Prosecutor's Office is currently investigating for homicide and no lead has been excluded.

"I spoke with his two cellmates," Ciambriello added, "with the others in the ward, many of whom were sick, three in wheelchairs, and no guards. The ongoing investigation, along with the autopsy to be held on Monday, will clarify the cause of death."

Ciambriello: "Let's all feel responsible for his death."

The Guarantor for prisoners, however, explains that Italian and Campania prisons are full of drug addicts and mentally ill inmates reported by their families. The lack of services, the failure in some cases of drug addiction treatment centers and mental health departments, is plain for all to see. So is the indifference of most people toward these groups. Kindness, love, affection, and sharing can heal almost all the world's ills, along with active social inclusion policies. Let us all feel a little responsible for these deaths and this loneliness. concludes Samuele Ciambriello.
