Expert Emanuele Paniz has been appointed to conduct the judicial experiment in the context of the trial on the murder of Ugo Russo, the fifteen-year-old killed by a carabiniere on the night of February 29, 2020 in the Santa Lucia district of Naples.
The victim, armed with a replica pistol and accompanied by an accomplice, was attempting to rob the officer's watch. The Naples Assize Court (First Section, with Annunziata presiding) appointed expert Paniz to conduct tests to determine the distance between the fifteen-year-old and the officer at the time of the fatal shot.
This information is essential to establish whether Ugo Russo was hit when he was in the immediate vicinity of the carabiniere or if he was already fleeing at a distance of approximately 9-10 metres when the shot was fired.

It is important to note that the shots were not fired simultaneously, but in two separate moments. The expert will have to present the results of the experiments, aimed at recreating the same conditions of the tragic night, within a period of 90 days.
Today, the Carabinieri responsible for the initial investigations were also heard as witnesses. The defendant, charged with aggravated voluntary homicide by the Naples Prosecutor's Office (Prosecutor Simone de Roxas), is being defended by lawyers Roberto Guida and Mattia Floccher. The Russo family is being represented in the proceedings by lawyers Domenico Di Donato, Giovanni Fusco, and Antonio Mormile.
