To address overcrowding in emergency rooms of hospitals under the control of the local health authority Napoli 1, the company crisis unit that was established today has decided to reopen a 'special ward' with 40 beds at the Ospedale del Mare.
The Local Health Authority (ASL) has also decided to increase home care, while hospitalizations are being halted. Finally, the availability of staff in the sector is being activated.
The Naples Local Health Authority (ASL Napoli 1 Centro) has established a Crisis Unit to manage the overwhelming influx of patients that has overwhelmed emergency rooms in recent days, reaching a peak this afternoon. The strategic management of the Naples health authority announced this.
"Flu and COVID infections have overwhelmed our facilities," explains General Manager Ciro Verdoliva. "We must try to recover every available space to bring the situation under control. All the staff," he assures, "are doing an extraordinary job, but we must remain vigilant to ensure that the current emergency is resolved as quickly as possible."
It is important to emphasize, continues ASL Napoli 1, that thanks to the work of all the competent professionals in the emergency chain, continuity of care has never been interrupted, nor has emergency surgical activity. The Crisis Unit's work is aimed at identifying every possible action to avoid collapse.
"The situation is delicate," Verdoliva concludes, "but there's no need to raise alarm. The work is proceeding with the constant support of the regional government and in constant coordination with all local authorities."
