Antonio Di Vito, director of the Vesuvius Observatory, declared that the current situation of bradyseism in the Campi Flegrei It is not very different from recent periods. The ground deformation continues at a slower rate and with less seismicity.
“The current situation regarding bradyseism is not very different from that of recent times. The deformation of the ground in the Campi Flegrei with bradyseism is continuing, at a lower speed and also with a consequent lower seismicity. But it continues”.
However, Di Vito stressed that despite this, the work of monitoring and analysis of the territory is constantly improving. A monitoring room was recently created on Vesuvius to ensure continuous monitoring 24 hours a day, even in the event of exceptional events that could compromise the main headquarters in Fuorigrotta, such as floods or electrical failures.
The goal is to make everything independent of human presence, so that we can carry out assessments of danger and other aspects together with the relevant bodies such as the Civil Protection and the Major Risks Commission.
