A 5-year-old girl, Beatrice Angela Gobbo, died in Padua on January 4 after contracting a virus. The little girl, born in Abano Terme and living in Veggiano, had been hospitalized for two days in pediatric intensive care.
The girl's father, Giovanni, told the media that she began to feel ill two days before New Year's Eve. After two days, Beatrice also began to show the first symptoms, including tiredness and fever.
The child was taken to the pediatric emergency room, but her condition rapidly deteriorated. She was then transferred to the hospital, where she died shortly thereafter.

Beatrice's parents consented to organ donation, but tests revealed that the virus had irreversibly affected all of her organs. An autopsy was therefore ordered to determine the cause of death.
Beatrice's funeral will take place on Friday, January 12, in the Basilica of Santa Giustina in Padua.
