In Naples, precisely on the occasion of the presence of the delegates of the Royal Palaces of Europe, the door separating the Appartamento di Etichetta, now a museum, from the rooms now used as the seat of the Vittorio Emanuele III National Library of Naples, originally the Royal Bourbon Library, which became the National Library after the unification of Italy and was moved to the Royal Palace in 1927, has been exceptionally reopened.
Delegates were present from Versailles, Princess Sissi's castle in Vienna, the Castles of Saxony, the Palace of the Principality of Monaco, and the residence in Warsaw—now a museum—of the last king of Poland, Stanislaus II Augustus. Representatives representing Italy included the Royal Palace of Milan, the Quirinale, the Royal Palace of Colorno (which recently joined the association), the Royal Palace of Caserta, and, of course, the Royal Palace of Naples, the venue for the two-day event of the Association of European Royal Residences.
European guests will have the opportunity to retrace the path taken by the sovereigns to retire to their private apartments, skirting the hanging garden overlooking the sea, reliving moments of history but also enjoying the atmosphere of approaching the precious book collections that today fill the rooms, creating new suggestions, to admire rare manuscripts, almost unique like the two oldest purple codices (4th and 9th centuries) exhibited in the exhibition of Porpora e di Luce.
