"I accept the invitation of Polis and Don Tonino Palmese: a roundtable will be set up at the ministry to resolve the unease felt by the victims and to review the regulations."

The minister said it Matthew Piantedosi, who spoke this morning in Naples at the seminar on the theme "Rights and Needs of Crime Victims," organized by the Polis Foundation in the library dedicated to Annalisa Durante, who was killed by mistake in a shooting in the Forcella neighborhood in 2004.

Before the meeting, the minister met with little Noemi, the girl injured five years ago in a Camorra ambush in Naples.

"It was moving to meet the families of the innocent victims," Piantedosi said, "people who turn their personal tragedies into a cause for civil struggle. From places like these, we need to propose new models to young people, models of a gentle, different way of life."

Regarding the legislation granting benefits to families of innocent crime victims, Piantedosi said, "The Ministry is the right partner. There are issues and mistakes that need to be addressed, and Polis's call is one I welcome. It should be noted that over the years, subsidies totaling approximately €800 million have been awarded, but they must be spent consistently and in the right direction."

Among the various topics addressed, the minister said "the distinction between case studies and categories of victims is unfair." Therefore, on this issue, "conversation is appropriate, and doing so together with associations is the best approach.

The State," Piantedosi concludes, "is often questioned by family members, who rightly ask whether everything possible was done to prevent tragedies. It must do more, it's true, but it must not be equated with the executioners."
