For a fire hung on an uncultivated land in Pianura, on the outskirts of Napoli, two people - a 34-year-old and a 66-year-old resident in the province of Napoli - have been banned from residing in the Municipality of Naples and required to report to the judicial police daily. The order was issued by the investigating judge of the Naples court at the request of the Prosecutor's Office following investigations conducted by the Naples Environmental, Agri-food, and Forestry Police Investigative Unit of the Carabinieri Forestry Group.
The two men are being investigated on various charges, including arson and destruction of natural beauty. The incident occurred last September when, according to investigators' reconstruction, the fire was started to clear uncultivated land of vegetation.
The flames affected a vast area, approximately 8 hectares within the "Parco Metropolitano delle Colline di Napoli," one of the city's main green spaces, and affected Mediterranean scrub and other shrub species protected by law, including for landscape purposes. Among the many measures undertaken by the judicial police, the "Physical Evidence Method" proved particularly important, a technical assessment through which the fire's origin was identified.
