In the past year, the Highway Police Department for the Campania and Basilicata has strengthened the control of roads and highways by employing 32.193 patrols who checked 97.350 people (the previous year there had been 84.270) and contested 76.124 infringements.
The violations for speeding were 739.704. 1.924 driving licenses and 3.582 vehicle registration certificates were withdrawn. Finally, 87.935 points were deducted from the license (the previous year, the licenses withdrawn were 1.723; 3.007 vehicle registration certificates withdrawn and 85.194 points deducted).
The drivers checked with breathalyzers and precursors were 40.929, of which 217 were sanctioned for driving under the influence of alcohol while those reported for driving under the influence of narcotic substances were 100. The vehicles seized for confiscation were 45.
3.284 accidents were recorded, 40 of which were fatal (in 2022 there were 55) and the number of victims (43) also decreased compared to the previous year with a reduction of 17 units. Accidents with injuries were 1.154, with a number of 1.838 injured.
Controls continued in the professional transport sector which involved 150 operators, including policemen and employees of the Ministry of Sustainable Infrastructure and Mobility, who checked 1.180 heavy vehicles, ascertaining 3.597 infringements and withdrawing 348 licenses and 716 registration cards.
The judicial police activity was also particularly effective, allowing a total of 786 people to be brought to justice, of which 50 were arrested and 736 reported while at liberty.
Over 128 g of narcotic substances seized and 1086 vehicles seized for recycling. The public establishments checked were 178 of which 44 auto repair shops, 70 car dealerships, 14 driving schools, 9 body shops, 9 car registration agencies, 24 car demolitions and 8 other establishments. 172 infringements were detected of which 164 for which an administrative sanction is foreseen and 8 of criminal relevance.
Even on the prevention front, the Highway Police Department for Campania and Basilicata has been constantly engaged in proximity initiatives; in fact, prevention activity is the privileged way to combat road accidents which, for young people up to 30 years of age, represent the first cause of death.
For this reason, awareness-raising projects such as ICARO, BICISCUOLA, SII SAGGIO, GUIDA SICURO, E…STATE CON NOI, LA STRADA PER LA VITA, INCROCI, but also vehicles such as the Camper and the Pullman Azzurro with their special equipment, represent the tools with which the Highway Police promotes the culture of legality.
Overall, over 8.000 students from schools in the seven provinces administered by the Highway Police Department for Campania and Basilicata participated in the numerous road safety education meetings, involving them in ever new and effective training activities.
