Tragedy struck the community of Bollate in the province of Milan when a prison officer killed himself outside of his duty hours by throwing himself from the second floor of a shopping center.
The man, who was 47 years old, was married to a colleague and leaves behind a young daughter. The reasons that led him to commit this desperate act are not clear at the moment. The news shocked the Sappe union, as stated by the regional secretary of Lombardy, Alfonso Greco.
Donato Capece, general secretary of Sappe, denounced "the critical situation in which prison police officers find themselves and the lack of support from the Ministry of Justice and the Department of Penitentiary Administration, highlighting the need to provide support tools and help to those who work in this sector.
