New artefacts and what appears to be the entrance to a temple were discovered during the filming of a reportage of Send me RaiTre built in the archaeological area of Pompei.

The images, created and edited live, will be shown during tomorrow's episode, starting at 9am. RaiTre, show the incredible discovery of what, according to the archaeologists present, could be the opening of a temple.

Inside the site of Civita Giuliana, an area approximately 700 metres northwest of the walls of ancient Pompeii, journalist Amalia De Simone, together with director Danilo Di Nucci, first crossed (for the first time ever) the tunnels dug by tomb raiders inside the area during a clandestine excavation that, according to investigators, lasted almost 30 years, before reaching the site of the discovery together with experts.

Strengthening the hypothesis that it is a temple is the testimony of a thief of artefacts who told the cameras of the programme that he had participated in the clandestine excavations and had stolen from the temple that is emerging a statue of Hercules of approximately 1,60 m and 12 tables corresponding to 12 paintings on the labours of the Hellenic hero.

According to the source, the statue was released on the international circuits by a Camorra boss for around 1 billion of the old lire, while the tomb raiders received 70 million lire.

The investigation also revealed a site where two paintings currently on display at the Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles were stolen and on which the Attorney Nunzio Fragliasso has initiated an international rogatory.
