It is a book about libraries because – writes the Author – I have been dealing with them since 1977 and because today they are an even more necessary infrastructure than they were then.
It is a book about democracy because in recent years - continues the Author - we have been able to see how much it is in danger where citizens do not read, do not inform themselves, do not participate. The rights and freedoms guaranteed by the constitution - declares the writer - are not compatible with a life dominated by images that appear and disappear on the screens of televisions or smartphones.
