Weather-wise, the weekend looks set to be a mixed bag. Clear and chilly weather is expected today, but conditions will worsen on Sunday, marking the start of a sudden shift from cold to mild over the next few days.
Although the cold has characterized the last 4-5 days, Gussoni emphasizes that in general, the cold has remained mainly beyond the border, only recently reaching the Center and locally the South. In short, until now we have had few traces of a typical winter: subzero temperatures, even during the day, are a distant memory.
Exactly 39 years ago (in 1985), temperatures of -21°C were recorded in Florence and -19°C were widespread in the Po Valley.
In the next few hours, after one of the coldest awakenings of the last few weeks, we will still experience cold temperatures in the North, while in the South there will already be milder temperatures with some residual clouds. Subsequently, a disturbed system coming from the Balearics will cause the rotation of the winds from the west and south-west, bringing milder winds and a gradual increase in maximum temperatures. On Sunday, the possibility of drizzle is expected from Liguria to Calabria along the western side, alternating with prolonged dry phases, with cloudier skies over the entire western sector.
January 15, mid-month and mid-winter, will bring bad weather with widespread rains on the Tyrrhenian side, maintaining a cold climate only in the North. The most intense rains will hit Lower Lazio, Campania and Tyrrhenian Calabria, while snow will be limited to the highest peaks of the Apennines, above 1500 meters.

Subsequently, a succession of disturbances will bring meteorological phenomena also on Tuesday in the South and locally between eastern Liguria and Upper Tuscany. On Wednesday, rain is expected over much of the Center-North with snow on the Alps, but not on the Apennines.
Starting from January 18, an anomalous warm phase or the passage of a polar core could occur with a drastic drop in temperature and snow up to the Adriatic coast. However, this current forecast has low reliability.
