The new year of the public theater of Forcella hosts four shows dedicated to Raffaele Viviani.

After the great success of critics and the public during the Christmas period that welcomed the return of the Cantata dei Pastori with Peppe Barra, to open the new year the program, curated by Marisa Laurito, offers four shows written or inspired by the playwright from Castellammare di Stabia.

Thus the cultural action of the Forcella foundation of valorization and promotion of the repertoire of the author to whom the theatre is dedicated continues, in particular for the younger audience.

It begins on Friday 5 January with the one-act diptych “'O cafè 'e notte e ghiuorno” (Night and Day Café) and “'Nterr' 'a 'Mmaculatella” (Maritime Dock), for the Viviani per strada project conceived and directed by Nello Mascia (on stage until Sunday 14 January).

This will be followed by “Io, Raffaele Viviani”, a show directed by Antonio Ferrante (from Thursday 18 to Sunday 21 January) and “Sottovoce”, directed by Ernesto Lama (Thursday 25 January).

This Vivian review will close with “La musica dei ciechi”, a project and direction by Gigi Di Luca (from Friday 26 to Sunday 28 January).

Shows are performed at 21pm on weekdays and at 18pm on holidays.

The Trianon Viviani benefits from the support of the Ministry of Culture, the Campania Region (ordinary funds and POC 2014-2020) and the Metropolitan City of Naples, with the patronage of Rai Campania.

“'O cafè 'e notte e ghiuorno” (Night and day café) and “'Nterr' 'a 'Mmaculatella” (Maritime dock) – from Friday 5th to Sunday 14th January

Presented as a seasonal preview last year, the third chapter of the Viviani project, conceived and directed by Nello Mascia and produced by Trianon, returns to the stage: the two one-act plays “'O cafè 'e notte e ghiuorno” (Night and Day Café) and “'Nterr' 'a 'Mmaculatella” (Maritime Dock), written by the playwright from Castellammare di Stabia in 1919 and 1918 respectively.

'O cafè 'e notte e ghiuorno is set on a cold winter night in Don Alfonso's "third-rate café". For Mascia The atmosphere is a chilly nocturne, belying the rhetoric of a sun-drunk city, with the characters living out their existential tragedy with all the skepticism, imagination, and self-irony of which the Neapolitan people are capable. We laugh at the mad writer reciting aloud the improbable script he's composing; we laugh at the unlucky gambler, the lazy and vulgar waiter, and even at the unemployed worker's family who have decided to spend the night in the café because they no longer have a home to put them up.

In 'Nterr' 'a 'Mmaculatella we find ourselves at the dock of Immacolatella, with the «transitrancheto» Washington that is about to set sail for Argentina with its load of emigrants. In this one-act play Viviani addresses the drama of emigration, made more dramatic by the economic and social crisis caused by the war, focusing on four groups of characters: the emigrants, poor peasants who have paid dearly for the ticket of the journey, overwhelmed by speculators of every kind, beautiful energies forced to disperse around the world; the first-class passengers, against whom the Author's mockery rages; then there are «those who remain», because forced; and, finally, the sub-proletariat of the people of the port.

With Nello Mascia himself, who also signs the direction, and the participation of Giovanni Mauriello, the two shows will feature Federica Aiello, Francesco Bellopede, Salvatore Caruso, Peppe Celentano, Francesco Del Gaudio, Angela De Matteo, Bianca De Matteo, Massimo De Matteo, Antonio Fiorillo, Antonio Maria Iorio, Pierluigi Iorio, Luca Lubrano, Roberto Mascia, Matteo Mauriello, Maurizio Murano, Serena Pisa, Ivano Schiavi and Federica Totaro.

The music is performed live by Mariano Bellopede, who also signs the arrangements and takes care of the musical direction, Francesco Del Gaudio (trumpet), Paolo Forlini (drums) and Davide Afzal (bass). The scenes are by Raffaele Di Florio, the costumes by Annalisa Ciaramella, the choreography by Ettore Squillace, the lights by Gianluca Sacco and the sound by Daniele Chessa. The assistant director is Roberto Giordano.

“I, Raffaele Viviani. My Rafele, you do it!” – from Thursday 18th to Sunday 21st January

This show, through careful research, aims to represent the fragments, among the most significant and sometimes unpublished, of Viviane's entire work with the idea of reviving that world of thugs, prostitutes and loves that have always characterized the Author's poetics.

Raffaele Viviani was born in Castellammare di Stabia to a family of humble origins. His precarious economic conditions forced him to leave school and to associate with people of less than respectable character. His adolescence was spent, as he himself tells us, between "women, wine, playing cards, declarations and sticks". In these conditions, young people risk ending up in prison, "without a fuck". His sensitivity, his intelligence led him to reflect and take stock of his life. And it is at this point that he took a primer and said to himself "Rafele, my dear, you do it!". Studying and tenacity led him to become one of the most talented authors of the last century.

Director Antonio Ferrante brings to the stage "Viviani's theatre with its popular, harsh and violent language, which always conveys to us a lightness never seen before, an extraordinary integration of technique and style".

The interpreters are Gigi Savoia, Lalla Esposito, Maurizio Murano and Francesco Viglietti.

The show is produced by Campania global entertainment.

“Sottovoce. Homage to Raffaele Viviani” – Thursday, January 25

“Sottovoce” is a sketch in prose and music of the funniest and most moving characters from Viviano, directed by Ernesto Lama.

Divided into five scenes, the show unfolds through as many themes of the Author's poetics: the Piedigrotta festival, lovers, work, thugs and variety.

"In this “Homage to Viviani” – explains the director – We also stage death, making life triumph through simple but effective changes of clothing: the white shirt, for example, symbolizes deaths at work, or women who become men by wearing a tie to symbolize their strength and, at the same time, their grace. The world is not male, but female. And man is merely a support to this splendid figure.

On stage with Lama himself are Marina Bruno and Elisabetta D'Acunzo, with the pianist Giuseppe Di Capua.

Sottovoce is produced by Mb concerti.

“Music of the Blind” – Friday 26th to Sunday 28th January

Written in 1928, “Music of the Blind” is a drama about the conditions of marginalization and poverty, exploitation but also the ethical and moral defense of the weakest.

"This staging starts from Viviani to go beyond Viviani – explains the director Gigi Di Luca – to seek connections with other musical worlds and with other stories of fragility and diversity."

The space is empty, bare, almost as if to outline an unbridgeable distance between the presence and absence of human life. In the middle of nowhere, here are the blind, the half-blind, the marginalized, the speaking souls united by the same destiny, by a need to cling to each other in order to survive.

"There is no hope in them, except the search for love, for the poetry that the tragedy of life hides and buries under a veil of indifference. – continues Di Luca – but there is the music that carries them away and elevates them to a superior class and there is the silence, which is perhaps the true music of the blind."

The show is produced by Bazzarra and features Antonella Morea, Roberto del Gaudio, Lello Giulivo and Ivano Schiavi. The sets are by Maria Teresa D'Alessio and Michele Lubrano Lavadera, while the costumes are by Giovanna Napolitano. The music is by Mimmo Maglionico.
