Il nucleo operativo dei carabinieri di Napoli Stella arrested a 19 year old Ponticelli, already known to the police, for his involvement in an improper robbery committed in Piazza Garibaldi against a 30-year-old woman.
The young man, along with an accomplice still being identified, is considered seriously suspected of the action committed against the victim during a walk on the sidewalk. During the crime, the 19-year-old was riding a scooter, and the passenger grabbed the victim's cell phone, dragging her for several meters in an attempt to escape.
The two robbers were chased by the police to the Forcella neighborhood, where they fled, also taking advantage of pedestrian areas of the square, abandoning the scooter at the end of the chase.
The analysis of video surveillance images and the identification of a fingerprint on the scooter's odometer allowed the Carabinieri to identify the 19-year-old, who was detained pending the validation hearing.
Investigations are still ongoing to track down the accomplice. The young man was arrested for involvement in a robbery in Piazza Garibaldi, and is awaiting the validation hearing. Law enforcement is still looking for the accomplice involved in the criminal action.
