A dramatic accident occurred on New Year's Eve in Ravello, where a firecracker exploded during an event in the square, injuring a young woman in the eye.
Around 3:30 a.m., during the "silent party" held in the Oscar Niemeyer Auditorium forecourt—a musical event where attendees dance while listening to music through personal headphones—a firecracker was detonated near a group of young people.
The explosion injured a 35-year-old woman, who was hit by shrapnel in her left eye. The young woman, who began bleeding profusely and lost sight in that eye, was assisted by those present, including her brother. Emergency personnel responded, treating her on the spot and deciding to transfer her directly to the "Ruggi d'Aragona" hospital in Salerno.
At the hospital, ophthalmologists diagnosed eye trauma, fortunately without fractures and limited to swelling. The lacerated portion of the eyelid was sutured, and no damage was found to the eyeball or retina. The young woman will need to remain under observation for at least three days. In the meantime, Ravello, efforts are being made to identify the person responsible for the reckless detonation in the crowd.
