After the restoration of the Royal Palace of Carditello, the Galoppatoio reopens.

Restoration work on the grounds of the Royal Site of Carditello, in San Tammaro, Caserta, was completed in December. The Galoppatoio, so dear to Ferdinand IV, has reopened, ready to host major events promoted by the Foundation that administers the Bourbon site, such as the Carditello Festival in July and the Volare sull'arte hot air balloon flights, which allow weekends to discover the Collecini Palace from a new perspective.

"We are working hard - explains Maurizio Maddaloni, president of the Real Sito di Carditello Foundation - for the complete redevelopment of the site.

By early March, we will also open the rooms of the royal palace, after a lengthy restoration project. They will be enhanced with new technologies and the Carditello Digitale project, opening an immersive room featuring digital content. This platform will allow us to share our history with new languages, complementing the Royal Site's cultural offerings and offering educational workshops for schools and families.

In particular, several interventions have already been carried out at the Galoppatoio: the ancient Bourbon moat has been restored, reviving the original rainwater drainage; the steps that once hosted spectators at popular equestrian events have been restored; the gate columns have been refurbished, eliminating the scars of time;

The external drinking trough, used by wayfarers stopping in Carditello, was rebuilt from scratch; a second restoration project was carried out on the monumental fountains with obelisks, once powered by the Carolino Aqueduct, which allowed the artistic decorations to be whitened and their complete repurposing, following the initial restoration carried out thanks to the FAI census.

Furthermore, the Tempietto construction site alone is expected to close in the coming weeks, having been slowed down by the integration of the missing steps, originally made from ancient Bellona stone, which is no longer available. Samples from leading Italian and foreign quarries have been proposed as replacements.
