Also starting tomorrow in Campania the winter sales, which will end after 60 days. The research center of Confesercenti Campania does not expect a large collection for the 550 thousand companies of the region (380 thousand in the Fashion and Furniture sector) since only 40% of consumers have already decided to spend to buy with the promotions.
The average spending, per capita estimated in Campania, explains the regional Confesercenti, "is lower than the national average (267 euros) settling between 196 euros in the rest of Campania and the peak of 210 euros in Naples. Four out of ten people, therefore, have planned to invest around 200 euros in these winter sales. However, 6 out of 10 people have not yet decided their spending".
According to Vincenzo Schiavo, president of Confesercenti Campania and national vice president for Southern Italy, "the approach of those who want to buy is disappointing. Many consumers are not yet in a position to make purchases because they are discouraged by certain issues: they don't have enough money in their pockets to plan their spending during the sales, they are waiting for higher discount percentages, or they are more generally reluctant to spend because they are frightened by the price increases announced in the coming months. Families are expecting increases in their gas and electricity bills, as well as those for raw materials, and this is why they are reluctant to invest in the sales."
Among the reasons for uncertainty expressed by Campania consumers, continues Confesercenti Regionale, "is also the climate issue: the high temperatures of recent weeks have discouraged people from purchasing heavy, typically winter clothing. There's no need to buy coats, sweaters, or jackets on sale because people think they'll only wear them for a few days."
Schiavo emphasizes: "The milder-than-usual winter, which has led to almost 50% fewer winter clothing sales in Campania, is compounded by Black Friday, a trend now imported from the United States and embraced by many companies. Discounts of 20% to 40% off just a month before Christmas have not only reduced Christmas spending, but also made this sales period less attractive for consumers. Added to all these factors is the fact that the economic situation in Campania is far from prosperous; per capita income is much lower than in other areas of our country, and consumers are struggling with what they have in their pockets. All of this falls on the shoulders of Campanian entrepreneurs, who will be penalized since too many people in our region have little money. The possibility of moving the start date of the sales forward should certainly be considered for the future."
