Sales in Naples, slow start but tourists are shopping

The opening day of sales in Campania is following the expectations of the previous year, with a start that is considered in line with the past.

Alfredo Catapan, advisor of Federmoda of Confcommercio Campania, comments on the situation based on observations of his clothing stores in Naples. He expects an increase in sales starting tomorrow and over the weekend, describing Friday as a less significant day.

Catapano expresses positive expectations after a difficult start to the season, influenced by the mild weather and families' modest spending on bills and mortgages. There is confidence in a recovery during the sales, considering the change of season and families' interest in purchasing winter clothing.

The councilor emphasizes that sales traditionally feature an initial discount that increases toward the end of the season to free up space for summer clothing, usually starting mid-March. He also emphasizes the challenge of competition between brick-and-mortar stores and online sales, expressing the need for better regulation of the online sector to prevent unfair competition.

Finally, Catapano notes that tourism represents a source of relief for Naples, attracting shopping, but he emphasizes the importance of working to improve the quality of tourists and extend their stay in the city.

Massimo Di Porzio, president Campania Confcommercio, notes that the start of the sales is slightly subdued, but predictable, attributing this to the weather and spending during the holidays. Data is similar to the previous year, with average spending per person just under €200.
