I Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of the Torre Annunziata Group, Naples, have placed Salvatore Langellotto, a building contractor from Castellammare who has already been convicted of association with the Esposito clan, under house arrest.
The order was issued by the investigating judge of the Oplonti court at the request of the Prosecutor's Office. Langellotto is suspected of having beaten Claudio D'Esposito, president of WWF Terre del Tirreno, in Sant'Agnello, on March 26 of last year.
The entrepreneur also allegedly repeated threats against D'Esposito and journalist Vincenzo Iurillo of Fatto Quotidiano during a report broadcast by the program Le Iene. The threats concerned an article written by Iurillo on the strange blessing of the new vehicles of the Langellotto company in a church in the small town of Sorrentine peninsula.
Langellotto, with a criminal record for the Camorra, allegedly beat D'Esposito, causing him serious injuries, due to old disagreements linked to the numerous complaints filed by the president of the WWF for the protection of the environment and landscape of the Sorrento Peninsula.
The entrepreneur was placed under house arrest
According to the prosecution, these reports would have damaged Langellotto's business interests in the construction sector. Prosecutor Nunzio Fragliasso declared that the attack was "brutal and uncivilized". After the formal procedures, Langellotto was placed under house arrest pending the preliminary hearing.
