"We demand justice, a life sentence for the inhumane man who robbed us of a sister, a daughter, a friend, a grandchild, and a great woman. The families living a life sentence of pain deserve justice and an exemplary punishment."

Chiara Tramontano, sister of Alessandro Impagnatiello, wrote this on social media, one week before the start of the trial in the Assize Court in Milan. Giulia, the 29-year-old seven-month pregnant woman killed by her ex-boyfriend with 37 stab wounds in their home in Senago, in the Milan area, last May 27.

Chiara Tramontano, ahead of the trial, asked people to share her appeal on social media "to cry out for justice for my sister and nephew, who were brutally murdered." She continued: "We want to know we live in a just country. Nothing will bring Giulia back to us, but justice can ease the perpetual sense of frustration and defeat we feel when we stand before my sister's gravestone."

He asks for "justice for his grandson (Thiago, ed.) whom we will never cradle, for our destroyed life, for the silences that will accompany every Christmas, every Giulia's birthday, every holiday when there will no longer be five of us at the table."

The parents "are suffering lifelong pain when faced with the photo of their daughter etched on a piece of marble." Meanwhile, before the court, the defense of the 30-year-old former bartender could argue for a psychiatric evaluation. One option for the young man's defense, theoretically, is to obtain all the documents, forgoing the right to hear witnesses in court, in a sort of summary trial.

Impagnatiello was put on trial after Deputy Prosecutor Letizia Mannella and Public Prosecutor Alessia Menegazzo requested an immediate trial in the Carabinieri Investigative Unit's investigation.

He is charged with aggravated voluntary manslaughter (he also allegedly forced his girlfriend to ingest rat poison for months), cruelty, frivolous motives, and cohabitation. He is also charged with non-consensual abortion and concealment of the body.

Father Giulia: "Impagnatiello's report? Trials are held in court."

"Trials are conducted in courtrooms, not on social media. I can only say that every action will be met with a reaction." This is what Giulia Tramontano's father, Franco Tramontano, said, commenting on the possibility that Alessandro Impagnatiello's defense attorneys might request a psychiatric evaluation to determine his mental capacity at the time of the murder of his girlfriend, who was seven months pregnant.

A week before the trial begins, Franco Tramontano concludes, "We are ready. The families suffering a life sentence of pain have the right to justice and an exemplary sentence." The trial for aggravated voluntary manslaughter will begin before the Milan Assize Court on January 18.
