Shooting stars also seem to welcome the new year: in fact, in the first days of January one of the largest meteor showers of the year, the Quadrantids, is active, whose peak is expected on January 4th.
Unfortunately, from Italy, conditions won't be ideal for admiring this phenomenon, as it will be very low on the horizon, and the best times to observe it are between midnight and dawn. Residents of the central-northern part of the country will be a little luckier, while those in lower latitudes, such as Napoli, observation is even less easy.

But, in addition to the Quadrantids, other smaller meteor showers will also be on display in January, which will be visible throughout the night, albeit with a smaller number of shooting stars.
This year, we will be able to admire especially those that are active in the period before or after the full Moon of January 25th, and which are therefore not disturbed by the presence of the Moon: the first to arrive will be the Rho Geminids, between January 8th and 9th, followed by the Delta Cancrids and the Alpha Canis Minorids, both visible on January 17th and 18th, and finally the Alpha Leonids, on the last day of the month.
