Irregularities have emerged in four social-care facilities for the elderly in the province of Avellino, Benevento e Salerno following checks carried out by the Carabinieri of the NAS of Salerno. The checks were intensified during the Christmas holidays, when there is generally an increase in demand for hospitality by the elderly, in order to verify the correct provision of care and assistance services. During the inspections, four facilities were identified that presented, in various ways, some "non-conformities" attributable to slight hygiene-health, structural-organizational deficiencies or non-compliance with workplace safety regulations.
Among the most widespread irregularities were the use of a number of operators that did not always correspond to that established for maintaining a high level of care, the presence of elderly people in a number greater than the maximum authorized capacity, the absence of call bells corresponding to the beds, bathrooms with shower trays raised above the floor level and the presence of rooms not contemplated or with a surface area of less than nine square meters.

In the province of Avellino, the checks were carried out with the Fire Brigade of the local Department, noting in two cases irregularities, of various kinds, also in terms of fire safety, such as the presence of furnishings and curtains not approved with suitable fire reaction classes, delays in checking the smoke detection system, failure to update the emergency and evacuation plan, insufficient trained workers designated as fire prevention personnel. The violations of the fire regulations have been reported to the Avellino Public Prosecutor's Office.
