Milano, 29/01/24 — L-Nutra Europe, the European subsidiary of L-Nutra, a leading company in the development of innovative nutritional programs such as Fasting Mimicking Diet (DMD) under the brand ProLon, announces the results of a research published in the prestigious journal “NPJ Metabolic Health and Disease”. The study, also expanded by Nature.com, compare the effectiveness of the Mediterranean Diet (DM) and of the Fasting Mimicking Diet, focusing on overweight and obese subjects with hypertension.
The study involved 44 subjects in the DMD group and 40 in the Mediterranean Diet (DM) group, all obese adults with hypertension, aged between 35 and 75 years.
In this study, the Fasting Mimicking Diet included a caloric intake of 1000-1100 kcal on the first day and 700-800 kcal on the following days, while the Mediterranean Diet group followed a validated Mediterranean diet without strict adherence constraints.
The results showed that the Fasting Mimicking Diet group had a reduction in the reactive hyperemia index (RHI), which may indicate a potential rejuvenating effect rather than damage to endothelial function. During the three-month follow-up, the Fasting Mimicking Diet group showed a decrease in insulin levels and insulin resistance assessed by the Homeostasis Model of Insulin Assessment (HOMA-IR), while the Mediterranean Diet group had a greater reduction in diabetes prevalence, despite having almost double the number of subjects with diabetes at the start of the study. Significantly, the Fasting Mimicking Diet group, which followed 4 cycles of intermittent fasting of 5 days each, observed a marked decrease in trunk fat mass without losing lean muscle mass, unlike the Mediterranean diet group, who lost over two pounds (about 0,9 kg) of lean muscle mass.
Research shows that both diets are effective in improving cardiometabolic risk factorsBut with significant differences in muscle mass maintenance and impact on vascular rejuvenation. The Fasting Mimicking Diet, in particular, has been shown to be effective in preserving lean body mass.(*)
L-Nutra Europe is committed to providing nutritional solutions that not only improve cardiometabolic health but also maintain vitality and quality of life. This study represents an important step forward in understanding the efficacy and benefits of different diets.
