Writer Susanna Tamaro has updated fans on her condition after a serious accident during an episode of sleepwalking.
"Are you surprised I haven't written anything during the holidays? I had already planned a post for December 19th, the birthday of my ancestor Ettore Schmitz—better known as Italo Svevo—but on the night of the 18th I had a terrible accident. In a fit of sleepwalking, I flew down a flight of stairs.
What a shock when I woke up and realized I was flying without knowing how to land. Yet, already when I was in the ambulance, I could only say to myself: how happy I am, how lucky I am because I could have died or remained paralyzed and instead I am still alive, even with a few fractures.

The struggle with pain has taken away all my energy for the thoughts I would have liked to share with you. But I also thought that if I am still here it is also because of your affection and the many things that unite us. Thank you for the beautiful messages you sent me! I think that many of you are spending your days with Chiara and Davide.
