On stage Saturday 13th (at 19.00 pm) and Sunday 14th January (at 18.00 pm) at the Ghirelli Theatre in Salerno (Viale Antonio Gramsci), “Sagoma – monologue for light alone” for and with Nando Paone.

The text of Fabio Pisano, Directed by Davide IodiceIt's the story of an actor intent on finding the perfect backdrop for his show, which is perhaps more of a response to his life, overexposed to the sometimes blinding spotlight that hasn't always allowed him to show himself for who he is, but only for who the audience wants him to be. No redemption, no remorse, just the desire to be a counterpoint for once, just once.

"For me, Silhouette represents that divide between the comic actor on one side and the actor without adjectives on the other. The actor, and that's it. – Nando Paone is keen to underline, in a moment particularly rich in commitments and recognitions -. I've always alternated between comedic and non-comedic roles, convinced that an actor should be able to understand them all. Precisely to be known, beyond recognizability."

Along with the protagonist, locked in a theater for an indefinite period of time, there's also the technician, played by Matteo Biccari, on a ladder, moving the spotlights to find the perfect counterpoint. The two speak and interact solely through light, bringing the conversation to an almost monologic level. One hanging from a ladder, the other hanging from the stage, they share the precariousness of a profession and an existence where the abyss is only a quarter of a step beyond the established mark. Zen and archery are the protagonist's guides, and represent the key to his being there, now, against the backdrop of reaching the finale, the epilogue he only dreamed of, or perhaps hoped for.

Director's notes

I have always preferred the definition dramatis persona to that of character or role. Too much psychology in the character, too much commedia dell'arte in the role. In the dramatis persona, the work and the personal experience coexist, the mask and the face, the drama and life. The self, becoming public, becomes political, as they used to shout. When Nando Paone invited me to intertwine our paths and our sensibilities, Fabio Pisano casually told me about a draft of a text inspired, by instinctive suggestion, by the subtle and poetic 'figure' of Nando himself, who is not afraid to go against the reassuring consolation of the already known, to attempt an authentic emotion. I thus had the rare opportunity to build a show not simply with an actor, but for an actor: to dedicate it to him. And since Fabio's beautiful suggestion speaks of theatre and actors, and technicians, and the invisible that allows vision, and the darkness in which light is born or dies, then allow me to dedicate this work, innocent and full of affection, to theatre and to those who do it. To the prodigious and sometimes bizarre workers like inscrutable gods, who move between stage and stairs, to Maurizio Viani who taught me the difference between 'putting oneself in the spotlight' and 'coming to light', and to our two very young travelling companions Carlotta and Matteo, because theirs is that line of horizon that proceeds from the dark background of the stage well beyond the proscenium.
