To open the new year, the Pietà de' Turchini Foundation restarts with a new site-specific concert, which will be held on Saturday 6 January at 18.00:XNUMX pm at the Gallerie d'Italia in Naples.
Born at the invitation of Intesa Sanpaolo, on the occasion of the Exhibition Naples in the Time of Napoleon, the concert Nuits d'été between Italy and France will see on stage Teresa Iervolino (mezzosoprano) – now a star in the world of international opera, who made herself known by interpreting bel canto roles and baroque operas in many of the great opera houses of the world, to the point of becoming one of the first reference voices – and Maurizio Agostini (piano). A dialogue between Italy and France with a very precious selection of authors, such as Rossini, Donizetti, Berlioz and Saint-Saens. Free admission until seats are taken. Info at 0817611221 or on the website turchini.it
The concert features a careful selection of pieces divided into three sections, in which the vocal part performed by Teresa Iervolino will be interspersed with piano interludes by Maurizio Agostini. The afternoon will open with the cabaletta Di tanti palpiti from Rossini's Tancredi, followed by a chamber music section featuring some pieces from Nuits d'été à Pausillippe, a collection for voice and piano published in 1836 by Donizetti. Although the lyrics recall various landscapes, Naples is the protagonist, the city where Donizetti lived and worked between 1822 and 1838. Among the pieces on offer, we find La canocchia and the popular barcarola Me voglio fa' 'na casa, highly atmospheric and evocative pieces, in a seductive bel canto style. In Sur les lagunes, instead, a piece taken from Berlioz's Les nuits d'été, a parable of the love theme is staged against the backdrop of a Venetian landscape evoked with dark and floating harmonies. La chanson du bébé has a completely different atmosphere, with which we return to a minor and, in some ways, hilarious Rossini repertoire: on a text by Émilien Pacini, the voice of a newborn baby revels in its limited onomatopoeic vocabulary, yearning for the triumphant satisfaction of its primary needs.
In the last section of the program, we return to a melodramatic repertoire with Amour! Viens aider ma faiblesse, a piece taken from the second act of Samson et Dalila by Saint-Saëns. Finally, to close, a final composition by Donizzetti taken from the third act of La Favorita, an opera performed in the original French for the Paris Opera in 1840.
